New Year's celebrations and reax in Dubai

With a spectacular fireworks display and a laser beam show Dubai welcomed in the new year on Friday night.

Plenty of celebrations took place in the city, a favorite destination for many on December 31, as the clock struck midnight, despite skyrocketing coronavirus infections.

Under the tallest building in the world, the Burj Khalifa, restaurants were almost full, with people out celebrating New Year's Eve.

While the world is struggling to fight the new variant of the coronavirus celebrations across the UAE continued.

The government called for strict precautionary measures to try and limit the spread of the virus.

The UAE ministry of health announced on Friday that 2,426 new coronavirus cases were detected, bringing the total number of recorded cases in the UAE to 761,937.
