Syrians living in Jordan began voting in Syria's presidential elections on Thursday.

Hundreds of voters queued at the Syrian embassy in Amman to cast their ballot in early voting.

The election is due to take place within Syria itself next week.

Syria's ambassador to Jordan, Issam Nayyal, said that only Syrians who had entered Jordan "in a legal way" and had a valid passport would be allowed to vote.

More than 1.3 million Syrians have fled to Jordan to escape the civil war.

The election is the second since the war broke out 10 years ago, and is widely seen as a sham that's certain to be won by Syria's ruler, President Bashar Assad.
