Thick fog covers swathes of central Israel

An eerie fog settled over central Israel early Sunday, blotting out the sky and blanketing parts of the country's most populous area. The fog covered many of Tel Aviv and nearby Ramat Gan's low-rise buildings, with skyscrapers jutting out from above, drone footage showed.

Meteorologists said they were surprised by the fog, which they say rarely appears in the Israeli winter. While visibility cleared up later Sunday, meteorologists said the fog was expected to return to the skies early Monday as well.
