Turkey's top diplomat has held talks with his counterpart in Saudi Arabia during his first official trip to the kingdom since the 2018 killing of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi in Istanbul which damaged relations between the two countries.

Speaking after meeting Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud on Tuesday, Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said they held talks in an "open and sincere way".

"We decided to continue our dialogue," he added.

The minister's two-day visit is the first by a senior Turkish official since the killing of Khashoggi by Saudi agents inside the kingdom's consulate and signals Saudi Arabia's shifting foreign policy.

In the past months, Saudi Arabia has moved to defuse tensions with other MidEast powers - driving efforts to end to an embargo against Qatar and even opening secret talks with archenemy Iran.
