On World Press Freedom Day, here's Pakistan PM Imran Khan's message "for those who keep spreading fake news"

On the occasion of World Press Freedom Day on May 3, Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan shared a verse from the Holy Quran, as a message for the people who spread "fake news".

On the occasion of World Press Freedom Day on May 3, Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan shared a verse from the Holy Quran, as a message for the people who spread "fake news".

The 42nd verse of Surah Al-Baqara [2: 42] from the Holy Quran translates as: "And mix not truth with falsehood, nor conceal the truth while you know (the truth)". 

Taking to Twitter, the Prime Minister shared the verse and in the caption, he wrote: "For those who keep spreading fake news".

The World Press Freedom Day was proclaimed by the UN General Assembly in December 1993, following the recommendation of UNESCO's General Conference. It is an opportunity to celebrate the fundamental principles of press freedom, assess the state of press freedom throughout the world, defend the media from attacks on their independence, and pay tribute to journalists who have lost their lives in the line of duty.

The theme of World Press Freedom Day this year is: Media for Democracy: Journalism and Elections in Times of Disinformation. 

The 26th celebration of World Press Freedom Day is jointly organized by UNESCO, African Union Commission and the Government of Ethiopia. The main event is being held at the African Union Headquarters at Addis Ababa.

Meanwhile, in a major embarrassment to Pakistan and a big diplomatic win for the Indian government, UN Nations Security Council designated Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Masood Azhar as a global terrorist under the Sanctions Committee, after China lifted its hold on the designation. 

Subsequent to China's accordance, Pakistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed that chief of the Pakistan-based terror outfit chief Masood Azhar is now blacklisted as a global terrorist.
