Pakistan PM Imran Khan's minister Fawad Chaudhry on Thursday announced that the country will send its first astronaut to space by the year 2022.

Fawad Chaudhry, who is the federal Minister for Science and Technology in Imran Khan's government, took to Twitter and announced that the selection process of the astronaut for the "space mission" would commence from February 2020. In the selection process, fifty people will be shortlisted, which will be narrowed down to 25 and in 2022, he added. Eventually, one man out of 25 wil be selected to be Pakistan's first person to enter space. He went onto regard it as the "biggest space event of the country".

Speaking in the matter, he said that ten pilots will be trained and eventually one pilot will be sent to space. The country aims to carry out the space mission by using its ally China's satellite launching facilities, news agency PTI reported. Notably in 2018, Pakistan launched two indigenously-built satellites into the orbit, using a Chinese launch vehicle.
