Pope appeals for help for seamen stranded by virus

Pope Francis on Sunday prayed for the tens of thousands of seafarers stranded on their vessels because of the coronavirus pandemic.

In his last Sunday Angelus prayer before Christmas, the pontiff said the international community needed to do "everything possible" to ensure they could return home to their loved ones.

He also warned that consumerism was undermining the message of the Christmas holidays and hiding reality, poorness and love from us.
