Putin Had No Intention of Settling The War Until I Got Elected, Says Trump

Trump has said that Russian counterpart Putin as per his opinion had no intention of settling the war with Ukraine until he got elected again to White House.

Washington: US President Donald Trump on Wednesday said that his Russian counterpart is a smart but cunning person and had no intention of settling the war until he got elected again as US President. Trump made these remarks during his first White House cabinet meeting which was also joined by Elon Musk. 

When asked about how the negotiations are going to end the Ukraine war, Donald Trump said that his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin is a smart but cunning person and had no intention of settling the war. “As far as this is concerned, he (Putin) had no intention of settling the war until I got elected and spoke to him. I think we are going to have a deal,” he said.

Trump continued and said that if he had not got elected, probably, Putin might have continued to go over Ukraine and a lot more people would have been killed.

Trump on whether Putin will make concessions

When asked whether Vladimir Putin will have to make concessions if a deal is reached to end the war, Donald Trump said, “Yeah he will.

Trump further said that NATO presence in Kyiv was the prime reason for the war to start, therefore, Ukraine should now forget about it.

Trump then asked Vice President JD Vance to pitch in on Russia-Ukraine. Sharing the update on the matter, Vance said that the President will not make negotiations in front of the public and American media because whenever the President indulges in diplomacy, the media accuses him of conceding before Russia.

Vance informed that President Trump will be holding peace talks in private with both his counterparts.

Zelenskyy says will not accept a deal made by Russians

As Trump tries to broker the peace deal between Russian and Ukraine, his Ukrainian counterpart has on multiple occasions said that he won't accept a deal made by Moscow. Zelenskyy has demanded security guarantees from United States, something which Trump had categorically declined.

Moreover, Trump has demanded Zelenskyy for a deal between Washington and Kyiv on Ukraine's rare earth elements in exchange of United States financial and military support to the country during the war.
