Moscow: Vladimir Putin on Friday said that he understands Trump's plea ‘to spare the lives of thousands of Ukrainian soldiers’ provided that they surrender before the Russian forces. Earlier today, Donald Trump informed that he strongly requested his Russian counterpart to spare the lives of Ukrainian soldiers who were surrounded by the Russian military in one of the conflict regions.
Taking to Truth Social, Trump said that he had a very good and productive discussions with President Vladimir Putin of Russia, and there is a very good chance that this horrible, bloody war can finally come to an end.
“But, at this very moment, thousands of Ukrainian troops are completely surrounded by the Russian military, and in a very bad and vulnerable position. I have strongly requested to President Putin that their lives be spared. This would be a horrible massacre, one not seen since World War II. God bless them all,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
Responding to his American counterpart, Putin in an official response said that he 'understands' Trump's plea. “It can only be fulfilled if Kiev orders its troops to surrender.”
Moscow, while reacting to the US-proposed 30-day ceasefire proposal to end the Ukraine war, had said that it appreciated the efforts being made by Donald Trump's administration but expressed that Kremlin was looking for a deal that would assure a long-term peace.
Reacting to Russia's response on the 30-day ceasefire proposal brokered by the United States between Kyiv and Moscow to end the war, Trump said that Putin's response was positive but incomplete.
Trump said that Putin's response on the peace proposal was very promising but incomplete. “Hopefully Russia will do the right thing,” the President added.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy , who expressed willingness to accept US-proposed 30-day ceasefire proposal to end the war, said that Putin's response to the deal was ‘predictable’ and ‘manipulative’.
Donald Trump had warned both Zelenskyy and Putin saying that they (US) was trying to end the 3-year-old war but if the two leaders are not interested than America will be out of this.
Prior to that, after White House showdown with Zelenskyy, Trump accused his Ukrainian counterpart saying he didn't want peace after the latter downplayed possibility of a ceasefire without being given security assurances by US for the future. Trump publicly and in front of the world press schooled Zelenskyy for trying to play his cards when he wasn't in a position to do so.
Meanwhile, Trump had also threatened Russia of imposing strong sanctions if they fail to cooperate in the peace negotiations. Though on many different occasions, the US President favoured Putin saying he feels it would be easy for him to deal with Russia during the negotiations compared to his Ukrainian counterpart.
