New Delhi: Russian President Vladimir Putin outlined key conditions for peace in his recent conversation with US President Donald Trump. According to reports from the Kremlin and White House sources, Putin said that the United States and its allies must halt military and intelligence support to Ukraine to end hostilities.
The two leaders spoke for approximately two hours on Tuesday, discussing various aspects of the war in Ukraine, with Trump proposing a 30-day ceasefire plan that Ukraine has already accepted. While the Ukrainian government has agreed to the U.S.-backed ceasefire, Putin has yet to fully commit, citing several conditions.
Putin’s key demand for peace is the full cessation of military aid to Kyiv from the US and its allies. The Kremlin made it clear that this would be a fundamental step in resolving the conflict and halting hostilities.
The White House confirmed that the U.S. and Russia would begin immediate negotiations in the Middle East regarding the regulation of the conflict in Ukraine.
These talks will focus on technical aspects of implementing a ceasefire, energy agreements, and maritime security in the Black Sea. Following the call, the Kremlin released a statement affirming that discussions had covered a wide array of topics, including economic and energy cooperation between the two nations. A goodwill gesture from Russia was also announced, with the transfer of 23 seriously wounded Ukrainian soldiers to Kyiv.
Putin reaffirmed his commitment to a peaceful resolution of the conflict, describing his response to Trump’s proposal for enhanced security in the Black Sea as “constructive.”
In addition to the discussions on Ukraine, Trump and Putin also addressed the broader issue of global security, particularly non-proliferation efforts in the Middle East. Both leaders agreed that Iran should not be allowed to threaten Israel.
Trump has made it clear that ending the war in Ukraine remains a top priority. In recent weeks, U.S. diplomatic efforts have intensified, with White House envoy Steve Witkoff meeting with Putin in Moscow for a four-hour session. Witkoff later described the talks as "positive" and “solutions-based.”
