Thirteen bodies were recovered from a landslide triggered by torrential rains that flooded a vast area in central Vietnam and killed at least 36 people and left a dozen others missing since last weekend, state media reported Friday.
Of the landslide victims, 11 were army officers on a mission to rescue a dozen workers who were reported to be buried in another landslide at a hydro power plant construction site in Thua Thien-Hue province, Vietnam News reported.
The officers were resting at a forest ranger outpost when part of hill collapsed and engulfed the building in earth, rock and debris in the early hours on Tuesday, the newspaper said.
The landslide at the hydro power plant, however, is not yet accessible.
Floods in central Vietnam are receding but the nation is bracing for another rain spell this weekend as another tropical depression is heading toward the region, bringing further rainfall, the newspaper said.
