Jordanian protesters took to the streets of downtown Amman after Friday noon prayers to protest against Israel's plans to annex parts of the occupied West Bank.

Through their signs and chanting, the protesters denounced the annexation plans and U.S. peace plan in the Middle East.

Protesters called upon the Jordanian government to annul all agreements with Israel.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed to annex all of Israel's settlements and the strategic Jordan Valley.

His vision of redrawing the map of the Holy Land, in line with President Donald Trump's Mideast plan, has been welcomed by Israel's religious and nationalist right wing and condemned by the Palestinians and the international community.

It's unclear when or even if Netanyahu will follow through on his pledge, but he has made clear that he wants to annex land but not people, leaving cities, towns and villages under limited Palestinian self-rule.

But the plan has come under stiff international criticism.

The United Nations, the European Union and key Arab countries have all said Israel's annexation would violate international law and undermine the already diminished prospects of establishing a viable independent Palestinian state alongside Israel.

Even close allies, like Britain, have opposed it.

The Palestinians seek the entire West Bank as the heartland of a future independent state and believe the Trump plan would deliver a fatal blow to their fading hopes of statehood.
