Asia markets await more clarity on US election

The South Korean market opened slightly upward with hopes that uncertainties around the U.S. election could be resolved soon.

Asia markets posted gains Wednesday as investors worldwide await the results from the United States presidential election.Japanese benchmark Nikkei 225 rose, following the U.S market that also rose on election day as investors expressed optimism that a clear winner would emerge in the presidential race.As of 10:17 a.m. in Taipei, Taiwan's main stock index rose 54.94 points or 0.43% to 12790.95. The South Korean market opened slightly upward with hopes that uncertainties around the U.S. election could be resolved soon.

The benchmark stock price index KOSPI (Korea Composite Stock Price Index) started by 18.01 points up (0.77%) at 2,361.32.Markets around the world were rattled in 2016 as results in the presidential election suggested Donald Trump was running ahead of Hillary Clinton.The result of the presidential election might not be known for days because of the large number of Americans who voted early.

More than anything, what investors hope for from the election is a clear winner to emerge, even if it takes some time.Whether that's President Donald Trump or Democratic challenger Joe Biden is less important, because history shows stocks tend to rise regardless of which party controls the White House.
