A statue of the legendary former Brazilian player Pele was unveiled at the Brazilian Soccer Team Museum in Rio de Janeiro on Thursday.

A number of Pele's teammates from the Brazilian squad that won the World Cup in 1970, including Jairzinho and Leao, attended the event.

The statue was commissioned to mark the 50th anniversary of the victory.

Pele was given a preview of the statue at the end of last month when it was taken to Santos, where he lives, so he could give the work his final approval.

"It is much more beautiful than Pele," joked the former star, now 79.
