Britain's exist from EU will make it second-rate player, says EU chairman Donald Tusk

Voicing his concerns for Britain at the College of Europe, Donald Tusk said that Britain’s decision to exit from the EU will make it second-rate player

The European Union President Donald Tusk voicing his concerns for Britain at the College of Europe on November 13,  said that Britain’s decision to exit from the EU will mark the end of the British Empire. He further said that after Brexit, UK will become a second rate-player.  

Donald Tusk urges the Remainers to not give up

Donald Tusk who will end his tenure on January 1 urged the remaining people during his address to not ‘give up’ on their efforts to stop Britain from exiting the EU. He said during the European Union’s negotiations with the UK, they extended the time limits and added extra time which might go ahead with penalties. Tusk said that the supporters of Brexit believe that after leaving European Union, they would make the United Kingdom a global power, and alone it can truly be great, however, the reality is exactly the opposite.

Only United Europe can confront global powers

Donald Tusk believes that only united Europe can confront the global powers including the assertive China and be at par with the global leaders. He said that there is the same wave of opinion in countries like India, New Zealand, Australia and Canada that believe Britain’s exit from the EU will make the UK an outsider and a ‘second-rate player’, while the actual battlefield will be under the influential powers of the world like China, United States, and the European Union. Donald Tusk, who remained the chairman of the Europian Union for five years has always voiced his desire for Britain to change its mind and stay with the EU.

United Kingdom scheduled to leave EU

The United Kingdom is scheduled to exit the EU on January 31, after the UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson asked for an extension in the Article 50 process. He also agreed to renegotiate the terms of Britain’s deal with the EU but later decided to take the decision to call for general elections after the lawmakers in the UK Parliament rejected his Brexit deal. On the other hand, Donald Tusk will step down from his position on December 1 and the new EU chairman will be former Belgian prime minister Charles Michel.
