China's special envoy to Afghanistan Yue Xiaoyong arrived in Tehran on Monday to hold talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif amid the takeover of Afghanistan by the Taliban.

The Taliban swept into Kabul Sunday after the government collapsed and the embattled president joined an exodus of his fellow citizens and foreigners, signaling the end of a costly two-decade U.S. campaign to remake the country.

Heavily armed Taliban fighters fanned out across the capital, and several entered Kabul's abandoned presidential palace.

Dozens of nations from around the world are calling on all involved in events in Afghanistan to respect and facilitate the departure of foreign nationals and Afghans who wish to leave the country.

More than 60 nations released a joint statement Sunday night citing what they call "the deteriorating security situation" in Afghanistan.
