A plane returning 138 Thai citizens from China's central city of Wuhan, the epicentre of a new coronavirus outbreak, arrived late Tuesday at U-Tapao airport.

The Thai government sent an AirAsia flight to evacuate the group, trapped in Wuhan due to travel restrictions imposed by the Chinese authorities.

Officials in protective suits greeted the passengers at the airport tarmac and put them in buses heading toward the Navy compound, where they will be quarantined for 14 days.

Health officials in Thailand have confirmed six more cases of the new virus yesterday, bringing the country's total to 25.

The new confirmed cases are four Thais and two Chinese people from Wuhan.
