The Czech Republic is lifting all restrictions on travel to neighbouring Austria, Germany and also to Hungary.

Prime Minister Andrej Babis said on Friday Czechs would be allowed to travel to those three countries without testing or facing quarantine when they return home.

At the same time, the citizens of those three countries can travel to the Czech Republic without any restrictions.

The measure became effective on Friday at noon.

The Czech Republic and Slovakia cancelled all restrictive measures on their common border on Thursday.

Babis previously said the reopening should boost tourism and trade badly hit by the coronavirus pandemic.

Although travel restrictions have been lifted on the Czech side, talks with Germany continue to allow Czechs to enter Germany.

For now, Germany still controls its border with the Czech Republic meaning Czechs can only enter under special circumstances.
