Czech, Taiwan, US officials speak at joint Taipei forum

Taiwan's Minister of Foreign Affairs Joseph Wu, American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) Director Brent Christensen and Czech Senate President Miloš Vystrčil on Friday spoke at a forum in Taiwan about the importance of international cooperation amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Taiwan's Minister of Foreign Affairs Joseph Wu, American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) Director Brent Christensen and Czech Senate President Miloš Vystrčil on Friday spoke at a forum in Taiwan about the importance of international cooperation amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Wu said that medical "supply chain security is also national security", and added that Taiwan was a "dedicated and determined" partner for other countries.

Christensen described Taiwan's ability to manage the pandemic as "impressive".

He added that, "equally impressive, and truly inspiring, is Taiwan's ability and willingness to offer assistance to the United States and other countries".

Vystrčil said democracies had to work together with a high level of intensity, while ensuring they did not lose their freedoms

Vystrčil is at the head of an 89-people delegation visiting Taiwan from 30 August to 4 September.

The delegation heads back to Czech Republic on Friday evening.
