Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met the Kenyan Deputy Foreign Minister, Ababu Namwamba, on October 24. The meeting led to the discussion on India's development cooperation with Nairobi in the backdrop of the 18th session of the NAM (Non-Aligned Movement).

External Affairs Minister's meeting with foreign dignitaries

Jaishankar posted a tweet that mentioned his meeting with the Kenyan Deputy Foreign Minister.

The Indian External Affairs minister also posted a tweet with Sri Lanka's Foreign Minister, Tilak Marapana, that confirmed a brief discussion between both the dignitaries.

Jaishankar had also met Malaysian External Affairs Minister, Saifuddin Abdullah, on October 23 during the NAM Ministerial meeting that was held in Baku.

18th NAM summit

The 18th summit of NAM (Non-Aligned Movement) kicked off in Baku, Azerbaijan on October 25, bringing together the heads of different countries. The summit was inaugurated by Azerbaijan's President, Ilham Aliyev, who called for the strengthening cooperation among the 120 member nations.

The 18th session of the NAM summit was attended by world leaders such as Turkmenistan President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow, Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Bakir Izetbegovic, Nepalese Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, Pakistani President Arif Alvi, Indian Vice-President M. Venkaiah Naidu, Libyan Prime Minister Fayez Mustafa al-Sarraj, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, Afghan President Ashraf Ghani, Djibouti President Ismail Omar, Ghanaian President Nana Akufo- Addo alongside Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel, Malaysian Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohammed.

Venezuela's President made the opening statements at the inaugural session as the current chairperson before handing over the reins to Azerbaijan's president, Ilham Aliyev. Aliyev promised to build the NAM on the base of the Bandung principles. The principles of NAM were formulated in Bandung in 1955 but the forum became formal in the year 1961 in Belgrade with the initiatives of Jawaharlal Nehru and Josip Broz Tito.
