The famed Inca citadel of Machu Picchu will restrict its number of visitors when it reopens in July as part of new protocols after the archaeological site was closed for more than three months due to the coronavirus.

Under the new measures 675 people per day will be allowed to enter the site, much less than the more than 3,000 tourists it typically received per day prior to the pandemic.

On Saturday, the governor of Peru's Cuzco region was among the officials who visited the UNESCO World Heritage Site located on top of a mountain 2,500 meters high.

Some of the new protocols also include having people enter in small groups, having established routes, social distancing and the use of masks, among others.
