Hundreds of stranded British and American nationals left Bangladesh on repatriation flights on Tuesday, giving them a way home amid a nationwide lockdown.

Bangladesh's death toll from the virus rose to 110 on Tuesday with nine more deaths over last 24 hours.

The total number of infections to 3,382, officials said, marking a doubling of its reported cases in less than a week.

New hospitals for COVID-19 cases are being built and private businesses are pitching in with ventilator supplies.

Experts say the country's fragile healthcare system would not be able to deal with an increased number of new cases.
