Greece has imposed a nightly curfew in greater Athens and other areas with high infection rates and made it mandatory to wear face masks outdoors and indoors.

The new measures started Saturday in regions of the country in the top two risk categories of a four-level response system.

The curfew will go into effect between 12:30 a.m. and 5:00 a.m., with exceptions granted to night-shift workers and in the event of emergencies.

The hospitality industry has been one of the worst-affected by the economic crisis caused by the coronavirus lockdown.

Restaurant waiter Thanasis Anidis said the new restrictions would make the situation even more difficult.

Greece has so far escaped the worst of the virus, with just over 29,000 cases in total, and a death toll of 559.
