South Korea's National Intelligence Service Director Park Jie-won met Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga on Tuesday in Tokyo. The two agreed to work to resolve the issue of Japan's forced draft of Koreans during the World War II.
Suga said cooperation between Japan, the United States and South Korea was vital. Animosities over Japan and South Korea's colonial past have deepened in the last few years, worrying the United States, which wants to bolster a trilateral alliance to better cope with a rising China and North Korean nuclear threats.
