India achieved a massive diplomatic victory on Wednesday as Pakistan’s Masood Azhar, chief of the terrorist outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed, was designated as a global terrorist in United Nations Sanctions List. Moments after India's triumph, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari came forward to hail the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj for their efforts.
This is what he had to say.
His tweet read as follows.
"Declaring Masood Azhar as an international terrorist by the United Nations is a great diplomatic win for India. The way the international community has been mobilised against terrorism by the diplomatic endeavours of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj, I congratulate both of them."
India's diplomatic push saw China finally buckling under pressure and withdrawing the hold it had placed against Azhar's listing as a global terrorist.
Masood Azhar is the founder of terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed which perpetrated the Pulwama terror attack that martyred 40 CRPF Jawans, following which India received massive global support, from countries like Russia, United States, United Kingdom, Israel, France and others, with the UNSC even naming the JeM.
The win is even more startling given that China had cryptically said on Tuesday that the vexed issue of designating Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Masood Azhar as a global terrorist by the UN will be "properly resolved", but it did not give any timeline, which itself came days after Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan met China's President Xi Jinping in Beijing.
