Hong Kong leader Carrie Lam held off announcing a widely expected relaxation of anti-virus measures on Tuesday.

With two weeks of no new locally-transmitted cases of the new coronavirus, Hong Kong authorities are increasingly talking about lifting some of their social distancing measures and returning students to school.

Lam called on people to be "patient" and said an announcement will come "as soon as possible." That could be as soon as later in the day, after the weekly meeting of the Executive Council.

Local media have reported that a lifting of a restriction on more than four people at a social gathering is imminent, and that schools might restart with classes staggered from late May.

Lam also weighed in again over the political controversy heating up at the local legislature - another showdown between pro-democracy and establishment camps at the Legislative Council.

It's over China's criticism of lawmaker Dennis Kwok and its efforts to replace him with a pro-establishment figure.

Lam asked for "some Legislative Council members to mend their ways."
