Carrie Lam on the protests

Carrie Lam is the 4th Chief Executive of Hong Kong. On September 4, Lam announced the decision to formally withdraw the proposal of the rendition bill. This bill was widely criticised worldwide for proposing a controversial new extradition law which ensured political unrest in Hong Kong. This unrest has accelerated since the beginning of this year. The new law would make it easier to send residents from Hong Kong to China to stand trial, a process many people believe would undermine Hong Kong's legal system. Although Carrie Lam has suspended the proposal at the moment, the protesters continue to march probing Lam to agree to all their five demands.
