The coastal Ecuador city of Guayaquil is reeling from the coronavirus as hospitals fill up and the dead accumulate in morgues and family homes.

Relatives of some of the deceased say they've been waiting up to four days for authorities to arrive at their homes and pick up the dead.

In the meantime, some are wrapping up loved ones in plastic as they wait.

Officials have reported 2,748 cases as well as 93 deaths.

Ecuador has among the highest number of coronavirus cases in Latin America.

The new coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms for most people. For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness or death.
