Singgih claims that when the boy returned the toy to him he cried and hugged him. He also said that the little boy asked for punishment. The parents had reportedly told Singgih to give the boy a light punishment so that he learns his lesson and never tries to steal again. Singgih as punishment told the little buy to rearrange some toys on a display cabinet according to their colors. According to Singgih, the little boy had stolen the toy as his mother had promised to buy him the toy once his exam scores came out, but because he wasn't able to wait any longer to get the toy he stole it. Singgih also tweeted how the parents initially wanted to pay five times the price of the stolen toy but Singgih had reportedly turned it down as the boy had already apologized.
