Iran: Coronavirus has killed another 129 people

Health Ministry spokesman, Kianoush Jahanpour, said more than 68% of those who lost their lives to the COVID-19 illness caused by the virus were above the age of 60.Iran is one of the hardest-hit countries in the world by the new virus.

Iran's Health Ministry on Sunday reported another 129 deaths from the new coronavirus, raising its death toll to 1,685 amid 21,638 confirmed cases, state TV reported.

Health Ministry spokesman, Kianoush Jahanpour, said more than 68% of those who lost their lives to the COVID-19 illness caused by the virus were above the age of 60.Iran is one of the hardest-hit countries in the world by the new virus.Across the Mideast, Iran represents eight of 10 cases of the virus and those leaving the Islamic Republic have carried the virus to other countries.

Globally, the coronavirus pandemic has infected more than 307,200 people and killed more than 13,000.For most people, the COVID-19 illness causes only mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough.For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia.

The vast majority of people recover from the new virus.According to the World Health Organization, people with mild illness recover in about two weeks, while those with more severe illness may take three to six weeks to recover. More than 92,300 people have recovered so far, mostly in China.
