The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Boris Johnson proposed the idea of a new Iran deal in New York and the President of the United States, Donald Trump responded positively. In a joint session with the press, Donald Trump along with Pakistan's Prime Minister Imran Khan addressed the state of Iran and the terror in the country. The US President called PM Johnson a 'smart man' and also that he was not surprised that this idea was floated by the UK leader. Donald Trump further said that he understands why the proposal of the new Iran deal is relevant because the previous deal will expire in a few years. The old deal of 2015 was abandoned by Donald Trump last year.

The US and the Iran Deal

An agreement was signed on July 14, 2015, between Iran and the members of the Security Council. Under this deal, Iran had promised to limit its nuclear programme and in return, there will be a relief from the sanctions by the United States. The American sanctions were crippling Iran's economy. However, Donald Trump reimposed the US sanctions in 2018 after the withdrawal from the deal. The US President wants to decrease the Iranian oil exports to a negligible level. Moreover, the US leader has also criticized the deal made in the past and its failure to address Iran's missile programme and other regional activities.

Moreover, other leaders like the President of France, Emmanuel Macron have also expressed the possibility of a new deal with Iran for more than a year. Donald Trump also called PM Johnson a “winner” and a lot of money was wasted in the previous deal.
