Iraqi social media star and former model Tara Fares was shot dead in Baghdad. Due to the death of Fares and other recent killings, the Prime Minister of Iraq Haider al-Abadi ordered an investigation. The former Miss Baghdad and first runner-up for Miss Iraq was killed on Thursday after gunmen opened fire at the Camp Sarah neighbourhood in the capital. Reportedly, as per a statement by Iraq's Interior Ministry, the police officials are investigating the incident. Further, the Ministry spokesperson Major General Saad Maan told an Iraqi TV station, that two motorcyclists shot Tara while she was inside a vehicle.
The 22-year-old who was famous for her bold clothing and posts on social media, was born to an Iraqi-Lebanese couple and was living in Erbil, but visited the capital quite occasionally. Shortly after her death, a black and white picture of Tara pouting was shared with her nearly 3 million followers along with the caption "In a treacherous and cowardly incident, Tara Fares Chamoun, is with God. We asked God to accept her with His great mercy."

Her death comes just two days after a female human rights activist was killed in the southern city of Basra. Earlier, last month two well-known women from Bagdad's beauty industry were also killed. The Instagram star had various pictures of her sporting tattoos, different hair colours, adventurous clothes and was a victim of her fame and targeted because of her lifestyle, as said by a few Twitter users on the social media site
