Israel's prime minister on Thursday welcomed President Donald Trump's authorisation of sanctions against International Criminal Court workers involved in investigating US troops and intelligence officials and those of allied nations, including Israel.

Speaking in Jerusalem, Benjamin Netanyahu welcomed Trump's "bold leadership" in standing up for "justice and... truth".

The Hague-based court was created in 2002 to prosecute war crimes and crimes of humanity and genocide in areas where perpetrators might not otherwise face justice.

But the US alleges the court continues to pursue politically motivated investigations against the US and its partners, including Israel.
