The COP26 president met with the Japanese environmental minister in Tokyo on Tuesday to discuss how the UK and Japan will cooperate to fight climate change ahead of the climate summit in November.

Alok Sharma urged for a real change in tackling climate change in 2021, saying he believed that was "what this generation and future generation demand that we do".

Environment minister Shinjiro Koizumi pledged his government's support for what he described as "a very difficult role". The COP26 summit will be chaired by the UK in Glasgow, Scotland, in November. It will gather political leaders, climate experts and campaigners to agree on a global plan on how to fight global warming.
