Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi met with his Iraqi counterpart Mohamed Alhakim in Iraq's capital Baghdad on Saturday. The visit comes amid tensions between the US and Iran, that have arisen in recent weeks. The killing of Iranian Revolutionary Guard commander Qassem Soleimani in an airstrike in Baghdad has escalated a crisis between Washington and Tehran.

The two officials discussed relations between the two countries and regional developments and stressed the high level of coordination and cooperation needed to deal with a crisis and achieve security and stability. The Jordanian official is expected to meet with Iraq's president, the speaker of the Iraqi Parliament and the country's Prime Minister to discuss regional security, bilateral relations and investments.
