North Korean leader Kim Jong Un returned on Sunday to the site of Thursday night's military parade to pose for a group photo with the soldiers who took part in it.

North Korean state television aired footage of Kim back on the balcony overlooking Kim Il Sung Square, waving to hundreds of soldiers below him.

Kim gave them the thumbs up and stood for two huge group photos, and one slightly more intimate image, with massed ranks of military.

Huge group photos with the leader are a North Korean tradition going back to Kim Jong Il and Kim Il Sung.

Kim did another big group photo Saturday outside the venue of the recent Party Congress, with senior officials and "observers" who were present at the Congress – the term "observers" refers to those who are not official Congress delegates, but brought it from other areas of the North Korean establishment.

Yet another group photo Saturday was Kim together with "security and defence personnel" on duty during the recent Congress, according to the Korean Central News Agency. But state television has not yet shown images of this photo-op.

North Korea is scheduled to hold a meeting of its parliament, the Supreme People's Assembly, Sunday, but state media have not yet released any details about what has happened at this meeting.
