Spokesman for the Russian Presidency Dmitry Peskov said a U.S. report on Russia concerning the potential interference with the U.S. presidential election was "wrong" and "has absolutely no foundation and evidence."

Peskov said the Kremlin does not agree with the report and that Russia did not meddle in the 2016 or 2020 elections.

"Russia has nothing to do with any campaigns against any candidates," he said.

According to a declassified U.S. intelligence assessment, Putin authorized influence operations to help Donald Trump in last November's presidential election.

The report released Tuesday from the Office of the U.S. Director of National Intelligence says Putin authorized influence operations aimed at denigrating Biden, boosting Trump, undermining confidence in the election and exacerbating social divisions in the country.

The report also says that Russia sought to undermine Biden’s candidacy because it viewed his presidency as opposed to the Kremlin's interests, though it took some steps to prepare for a Democratic administration as the election neared.
