Latin American countries continue to put measures into place to attempt to slow the advancement of the new coronavirus, with some closing schools and borders.

Argentina, which has reported 56 cases of the new coronavirus, remains with land borders and schools closed on Monday. The national parks are also closed.

Chile announced it decided to close all its borders after the cases of coronavirus doubled from 75 to 156 in less than 24 hours.

The closure of the borders will not affect the entering or exiting of cargo and the personnel associated with that cargo, Chile President Sebastián Piñera has said.

There is also a home quarantine of 14 days required for Chilean nationals who are returning from risk areas, such as Italy, Spain, Iran and China.

Meanwhile in Colombia, President Ivan Duque announced that schools would be closed starting on Monday.

"Children and young people in public and private education institutions and schools will not have in-person classes and (are to) remain at home in preventive isolation," he said on Sunday.
