Malaysian hawker dies after fainting and falling face-first into a wok of boiling oil

A Malaysian vendor lost his life after fainting and falling face-first into a wok of boiling oil inside a food court in Kuala Kangsar town.

A Malaysian vendor lost his life after fainting and falling face-first into a wok of boiling oil inside a food court in Kuala Kangsar town. The hawker named, Liu Youcai suffered severe burns on his face, chest and back after falling into the hot oil on Wednesday, September 20, reported Malaysia’s Chinese newspaper Sin Chew Daily. 

After the unfortunate incident took place in Kuala Kangsar town, the local bystanders rushed him to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries after 1.5 hours. Liu was a well-known businessman in the area. He was famous for selling chicken chop and rice at £1.73 a plate. Due to his reasonable food prices, people used to come from far and wide, according to the other vendors who have been running their business in the same locality.  

Not a first incident in Malaysia

According to his older brother Liu Youming, he was suffering from high blood pressure for years and was advised to take care of his health. "He worked six days a week and even on Mondays when his stall was closed, he would come back to prepare the ingredients for his dishes,” said a worker at the food court, reported a local newspaper.

Liu Youcai's friends shared that they will always remember him as a cheerful person and an animal lover with over 10 stray dogs at his home. They said that Liu was a kind-hearted person who used to cook a large pot of rice with sweet potatoes daily to feed the strays near the food market.

This is not the first time a vendor lost his life by fainting and filling face-first into a wok full of boiling oil. Earlier, A 74-year-old fried banana seller in Penang died in 2022. The woman, identified as Zhong Bixuan, suffered severe burn injuries and later succumbed at the hospital.
