Honduran migrants are making their way through Guatemala towards the Mexican border even as Guatemala's government is trying to thwart their journey Friday.

A group of several dozen people walked as one of them, 30 year-old Yarlin Lorenzo García, walked in front of them carrying a cross.

"All the boys (other migrants men) we are coming, sometimes happy, sometimes mad, but we are coming," said García.

Guatemala's President Alejandro Giammattei said Wednesday that the migrants would be allowed to pass through Guatemala, though he noted that they would need the proper papers and predicted they would run into a "wall" in Mexico.

Less-organised migrant groups, tighter controls by Guatemalan and Mexican authorities and the presence of US advisers have reduced the likelihood of a repeat of the huge, cohesive processions - the so called caravans - that came through Central America and Mexico in 2018 and 2019.

The Mexican government has sent hundreds of Guardsmen and Migration Institute workers to the southern border to prevent anyone without the proper documentation from entering Mexico.
