It was a tearful reunion after a six-week ordeal stretching from China to California. Six weeks ago Esther Tebeka and her 15-year-old daughter flew from San Francisco to China to visit Tebeka's parents in Wuhan. As soon as they arrived, panic began to spread around the city about the coronavirus outbreak.

The pair stayed in Tebeka's parents gated community with plenty of food and water as the Chinese Government locked down the city.

Tebeka began calling the local US consulate and was able to secure seats on the first US evacuation flight out of Wuhan two weeks ago which landed in March Air Reserve Base in Southern California.

The pair had to be quarantined at the base for two weeks and were finally let out Tuesday, returned to their hometown of Palo Alto after midnight.

Monday afternoon, Tebeka saw her two other younger children, ages 13 and 11, for the first time in six weeks when she and her husband picked them up from school.

It was an emotional scene as the two children cried and hugged their mother as gathered media captured the moment.

Tebeka says she feels fortunate that her family is safe and healthy.

She says she plans on taking some time away from her work as an acupuncturist to cook for her family.
