Moscow landmarks turn lights off for Earth Hour

Moscow plunged into darkness on Saturday to mark Earth Hour as part of a global campaign to act on climate change. The Kremlin and St Basil's Cathedral switched off their lights at 8:30pm local time at Red Square.

Moscow plunged into darkness on Saturday to mark Earth Hour as part of a global campaign to act on climate change. The Kremlin and St Basil's Cathedral switched off their lights at 8:30pm local time at Red Square.

Over 2,000 buildings in Moscow joined Earth Hour 2020, according to World Wildlife Fund Russia (WWF).

Iconic monuments and towers including The House of the Government and Ostankino TV Tower also went dark to join the global movement.

Beginning in Sydney in 2007, Earth Hour has spread to more than 180 countries, with tens of millions of people taking part.
