Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has condemned the stabbing attack at the home of a rabbi in New York state.

"Israel unequivocally condemns the recent manifestations of anti-Semitism and the vicious attack in the middle of the Hanukkah holiday at the Rabbi's home in Monsey, New York," Netanyahu said in Jerusalem on Sunday.

"We will cooperate in every way with the local authorities in order to help defeat this phenomenon. We offer our help to each and every state," he added at the weekly meeting of the Israeli cabinet.

US authorities said five people were stabbed north of New York City during a Hanukkah celebration late on Saturday night and a possible suspect had been found.
