A TikTok video has gone viral while exposing how Panera Bread makes its mac and cheese. The video which was posted by a woman who is identified online as Bri is an employee at the Panera Bread and has been reportedly fired as she courted criticism over how much of Panera Bread's 'clean food' is actually frozen. The employee in the video is seen placing a frozen bag of company's mac and cheese into boiling water and ending the video with a grinning thumbs-up.
Jessica Hesselschwerdt, Panera Bread's spokesperson, has reportedly refused to comment on the video, however, she has explained the reasoning behind using frozen products. She told an international media outlet that to avoid using certain preservatives that do not meet the companies standard they use frozen products. She further added that the company wants to make sure that if a person is in Massachusetts or California or in any one of the locations they get the same experience. She claims that this is how Panera Bread is efficient and consistent.
The video has received millions of likes and views. One of the internet users commented saying “That's how most fast-food restaurants prepare the food. What do y'all think it is? Five stars? If this shocks you, you're not smart”. Another app user commented, “Panera is glorified hospital food”. The confirmation of Bri getting fired came when she tweeted saying that she had lost her job because of the video. She also posted a number of TikTok videos where she confirmed that she got fired from Panera Bread for posting the video on a social media platform.
