Pipe bursts in Russia hotel, boiling water kills 5

Five people were killed at a small hotel in Russia on Monday when their rooms with flooded with boiling water after a heating pipe burst.

The victims included a child. All had been staying at the hotel, located in the basement of a residential block in the city of Perm.

Six other people were injured.

Russian police have opened a probe into the tragedy.

A local official said criminal proceedings had begun.

Last year the Russian parliament banned opening hostels or hotel rooms in apartments in residential buildings.
