Polls closed in Iran's parliamentary elections on Friday evening. Voting stations were originally scheduled to close at 6pm, but officials extended that by a further five hours to give people more time to cast their ballots.

Turnout will be seen as a key measure of support for Iran's leadership after thousands of candidates - mostly reformists - were disqualified from standing.

Among them were 90 sitting members of parliament who had wanted to run for re-election.

Initial results are expected on Saturday.
