Pope Francis says world powers should guarantee access to a COVID-19 vaccine, with priority given to the poorest.

"The pandemic has shown a crude light on the urgent need to promote public health and to realize everyone's right to basic health care," Francis said in his address to the United Nations General Assembly.

Francis stressed that the crisis represents an opportunity for the United Nations and economic institutions to "respond to the rapid increase in inequality between the super rich and the permanently poor."

He also moted that the U.N. was established to bring the world together. "let us use the U.N. to transform our current challenge into an opportunity."
