Hundreds of Myanmar nationals gathered in Taipei City on Sunday afternoon to show support for anti-coup demonstrators and to pray for those who have died demonstrating against the Myanmar military government.

The independent Assistance Association for Political Prisoners had verified 247 deaths nationwide linked to the post-coup crackdown.

The actual total, including cases where verification has been difficult, is probably much higher, it said.

It also has confirmed that 2,345 people have been arrested or charged, with 1,994 still detained or sought for arrest.

Tseng Huan-wei, a 28-year-old Myanmarese at the demonstration who works as a medical worker in Taiwan, said his thoughts were constantly with his family.

"Myanmar has been turned into a slaughter ground," said one Myanmarese student, only known via his family name of Ho.

"Save Myanmar people against terrorism. To the people in Myanmar, we are with you."

The resistance cause over the weekend received support from demonstrations in several places abroad, including Tokyo and New York.
