Protesters gathered in the Plaza de Mayo in Buenos Aires on Monday to demand the government lift the quarantine that's been in force since March 20.

The protest came during celebrations to mark Argentina's independence from Spain.

Some of the demonstrators chanted slogans against the quarantine and against the development of a vaccine.

They held banners denouncing the so-called new world order and demanded the resignation of President Alberto Fernandez.

Some of the protesters accepted the reality of the pandemic but said the most important issue wasn't Argentina's relatively low death toll but the state of the economy.

As of Monday, Argentina had reported more than 12,600 COVID-19 cases and 467 deaths, according to Johns Hopkins University.
