Snow has covered a mountainous area in Egypt's Sinai peninsula, in one of the area's rare winter snowfalls.

In a video shot by local resident and tour operator Ragab Eid, the area is seen in the early hours of Friday morning, covered in white.

The icy conditions continued Saturday. Snowfalls in the area usually only stick around for a day or so until temperatures rise to their normal average again.

A cold front has passed through Egypt in the past week, with temperatures in the Sinai mountains dipping below zero degrees celsius and into the single digits on the mainland.
